WCEA Gift Acceptance Policy

Board Document · Adopted by Board of Directors: July 15, 2026 · Reviewed Annually by the Board Treasurer

This policy governs every gift WCEA accepts — cash, online payments, corporate sponsorships, grants, in-kind goods and services, venue donations, stocks, and more — and sets a clear approval threshold for each: most everyday gifts require no board review, while grants over $5,000, stocks, real property, and any gift with naming rights or donor-imposed conditions require full board approval. It commits WCEA to acknowledging every gift of $250 or more in writing within 5 business days, as the IRS requires for a donor's tax deduction, and spells out quid pro quo disclosure rules for sponsorship benefits. It also gives the Program Director authority to decline gifts under $5,000 that conflict with WCEA's mission, expose it to liability, or come with unworkable conditions — with the board required to approve declining anything larger.
