WCEA Confidentiality Policy
Board Document · Annual Review Required
This policy defines what counts as confidential at WCEA — student personal information, student business plans and financial data, FERPA-protected educational records, donor and sponsor information, grant strategy, board deliberations, and complaint investigation records — and binds everyone with access to it: the Program Director, board members, coaches, mentors, judges, sponsors, and partner staff. It's notably protective of students: WCEA explicitly claims no ownership over any student's business idea, formula, or branding, and a coach or mentor who uses a student's idea for personal benefit faces immediate removal and possible legal referral on the student's behalf. The Program Director keeps individual student records private from coaches, mentors, other students, and outside parties, sharing only aggregated, anonymized data with the board and funders for reporting and grants. It also draws honest limits — public pitches aren't protected after disclosure, and the policy never overrides mandatory reporting, a court order, or Kentucky's open records law.
